People arrive and depart – come and go- move through daily routines – we come together to put our collective efforts toward goals- we seek our own space to carve out our individuality come together in celebration and sadness– we seek out partners and community – we search for escape and solitude.  We strive to find a balance of closeness to and separation from others.  We follow our instincts and cultural cues to establish a regularity and notion of how we exist and gather together.

The various groupings of our fellow humans which we find ourselves within and which we seek, vary widely.  We naturally keep civil distances when we stand in an elevator or on a sidewalk. We tolerate tight closeness on busses and trains in rush hour and we enjoy the same closeness at concerts or dance clubs.   As much as we strive for individuality, our very beings are defined as much buy the way we gather ourselves across our landscapes where we live and at the social gatherings and events we seek out.

I am interested in how we group ourselves together in different places and in different situations and the physical and formal shapes that result.   Images of people and their surroundings may suggest a narrative.  Stories wrought with nostalgia and personal tale or may be a snapshot within the mundane rhythms of everyday life.  These different shapes and groupings and gatherings of people in varied patterns, colors and forms leave questions.  Are there conclusions to be drawn?  What is the story?   Are these images but lost fragments of repeating patterns, situations, experiences and cultural themes which are revisited and continue to be replayed with a revolving cast of characters?
